In a letter to the editor appearing in the Dec. 13 edition, "Fluoride-follow the science," the author grossly misrepresents the findings in the fluoride study. Per the letter's author, "Fluoride added to water at the current level approved by the EPA is not safe for our brains and nervous systems." This is factually incorrect, and blatantly misleading. The study actually said that fluoride levels at "twice" the level recommended by the EPA are harmful. Disinformation such as this, especially from a retired nurse, is poisoning the health care discourse in America, and leading citizens to make ill-informed and potentially harmful decisions regarding their health. I strongly recommend everyone to not take everything they read at face value; instead, do their own research, and make well-reasoned, informed decisions. I also recommend the letter's author to follow her own advice: "Follow the Science."
