The fall of 1985 was life altering.

Our 12-month-old daughter had already spent several days in a Mankato hospital after being misdiagnosed with spinal meningitis. We were young parents who hadn’t a clue about what was normal for a child at 12 months, but we knew she was not well. She couldn’t sit up, could barely pull her legs across the floor when she tried to crawl and struggled with her balance. It was clear, even to 21-year-old parents, that she was regressing.
