It was a smackdown of the most scholarly proportions on the morning of Feb. 29 when the annual “Battle of the Books” took place at Anoka-Hennepin Educational Service Center. The Book-a-teers of Roosevelt Middle School in Blaine took home first place, besting 18 other teams who were out to take the title.

“This competition was really fun and I made some friendships along the way,” Book-a-teer Hazel Schmidt said. “It made me read a lot more books than usual.”
