As part of the Dec. 17 Wayzata City Council meeting, buffer zones for cannabis retail businesses were established around schools, treatment centers, daycares and playgrounds.

The Wayzata City Council approved the first reading of the Regulating Cannabis Businesses Ordinance at its Dec. 17 meeting, continuing the process of building Wayzata's policies after the legalization of cannabis in Minnesota.

The ordinance was originally intended to be read and approved at the Dec. 3 meeting, during which Councilmember Alex Plechash raised concerns with the buffer zones around specific properties as one option was to permit cannabis businesses from being 500 feet to 1,000 feet from properties such as schools, day cares, playgrounds and treatment centers.
