Winning a departmental award and running a marathon were never reasons Ron Crook joined the Bloomington Fire Department, yet both have now happened.

Bloomington Firefighter Ron Crook was named the department’s 2024 Firefighter of the Year.

Crook, 41, was named the department’s 2024 Firefighter of the Year. It’s an annual award the department hands out to honor one firefighter each January during the department’s annual banquet. It’s an award that sometimes goes to young firefighters who have demonstrated exceptional performance since joining the department, while other times is presented to a firefighter who has had a long, distinguished history with the department. Crook falls somewhere in between.
