You’d think that the news about a gift of several millions in unsolicited philanthropic money appearing on the doorstep of a Minnesota nonprofit financial institution would not go unheralded. Yet, that’s exactly what happened recently when the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund was notified that they had been chosen for a large MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving Foundation gift.
An announcement on the Scott gift was released (minus the exact amount) on the Greater Minnesota Housing Fund website and Facebook page, but little other public notice followed. This editorial board wants to rectify this in order to give GMHF the notice that this amazing award deserves and to shine a spotlight on Minnesota’s remarkable efforts to end homelessness and build more affordable housing, and the importance of all Minnesota-based CDFIs.
